Dwayne,

Reagan cut the type of Peace Corps funding is he believed it was a liberal threat. I agree that we need to expand domestic/international peace-corp type programs, and with incentives, more American youth will serve in this type of AWSC then the military.

But I disagree that the incentive, on completion, is equal to 2 years of community college and 2 years of state college.

Why not a free ride completely through state college?

Right now youth serving in the military make more than youth serving in domestic type Peace Corps programs,  where many youth wind up going on food stamps, some in public housing because they can't make ends meet on their job, so I'd want such a program to be careful of this - we need a AWSC that has more benefits than the military. This is the only way we'd gradually have more youth in AWSC than the US military.

Otherwise I think this is a great plan and a real alternative to going into the military. The Greens in Syracuse under Howie had led an initiative called "Military Education Alternative Project" aimed to at-risk youth who were likely targets of military recruiters, and the Greens there advocated a similar goal like yours ( a much more expanded, well funded Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, etc)
