Physicians for Social Responsibility Resolution supporting America’s World Service Corps Congressional Proposals.

WHEREAS Physicians for Social Responsibility are dedicated to expand socially responsible actions throughout the world and thereby help fellow citizens to live safer and healthier lives, and

Whereas building enough nationwide support for Peoples Lobby  citizen-initiated American World Service Corps (AWSC) proposed congressional legislation will lead elected representatives to introduce and implement it in the next Congress, and

Whereas the AWSC prepares us to better respond to the devastations of earthquakes, hurricanes, poverty, medical needs, and economic and educational disparities while reducing poverty, substandard housing, terrorist recruitment, and poor living conditions, and

Whereas the WSC cost effectively produces more skilled, trained, can-do Americans with a deeper understanding of domestic and international policy needs, and

WHEREAS its passage in Congress will by its eighth year build a one million member strong volunteer WSC that will create the Special 21st Century Force that knows and does nation building through dramatically increasing the number of can-do Americans serving through existing, effective organizations such as the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, Habitat for Humanity, Head Start, Doctors Without Borders, Red Cross, International Rescue Committee, Mercy Corps, OxFam, and State Conservation Corps; and thereby reduce our need to introduce our military into troubled areas, which will reduce the draining and skyrocketing financial and human costs carried by our over- burdened military, and

WHEREAS the WSC proposals, as reflected in the missions of the recognizable core organizations, offers peaceful, productive, skill building service to Americans aged 18 through 60+ in a time when Americans desire and need to serve, and

WHEREAS the World Service Corps proposals will not only  produce many, many more much needed socially responsible acts throughout the world, but also build the habit of doing such work in tens of millions of Americans over its twenty year proposed span, and

Whereas such a program may inspire other nations to implement their own World Service Corps (WSC), which could then dramatically change the increasing cycle of warring, poverty, genocides, ignorance that proliferates too much in today 6+ billion peopled Global Village

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Physicians for Social Responsibility of Sacramento urges its elected representatives and citizens of California and the nation to support Peoples Lobby’s www.PeoplesLobby,us   citizen-initiated America’s World Service Corps (AWSC) proposed Congressional legislation www.worldservicecorps.us.  We hereby encourage others to support it and Congressional representatives to cosponsor and pass the proposals into law.
