Re:  Kerry, Huckabee.. Good regional players… climate change

February 12, 2007

On the February 11th This Week with George Stephanopoulos, Senator Kerry responded to the difficult Middle East situation by stressing how America must remain, “Engaged in the region.  Fully. Engage with Syria, engage with Iran…”  He also raised his growing concern about “Global Climate change…” and pointed to “increasingly compelling evidence…” that indicated to him that we have a “ten year window” within which we must make considerable progress.

Presidential candidate and former Arizona Governor Mike Huckabee saw the difficulties of the Middle East as having us involved in a World War.  He stressed that the world must, “Realize that we aren’t monsters.  Must realize we don’t want war.”  He also expressed concern that our policies were leaving us with a “Worn out army.”

Addressing the Senator and Governor’s concerns, Peoples Lobby Executive Director Dwayne Hunn told a Peace Pyramid gathering in Antelope, California that, “There is no better way to erase our warring image and involve us in appropriate technologies that will stem global climate change then to engage a million Americans a year in peaceful, productive nation building under the umbrella of the American World Service Corps (AWSC).

“When you view 21 nations that make up the Middle East, South, East Africa, and Indonesia, you find about 910 million mostly Muslims.  The peaceful, productive, nation building Peace Corps, one of those organizations under the AWSC umbrella, has only 58 volunteers working among them.

“Congress needs to introduce and pass the AWSC proposals soon to augment our worn down army with peaceful, productive nation builders.”
