Dear friends,

May you have a Merry Christmas with a healthy and Happy New Year.

My sister, technically no longer a diabetic and off of insulin injections, enters her 5th successful year with her kidney/pancreas transplant.  She is also becoming more adept with her prosthetic leg and getting out more, even becoming a computer user through training at Light House for the Blind.  Her email is heyhunn@yahoo.com.

It happened to my peers -- Wilt, Air Jordan, Butkus, Ripken, – those contemporary wanna-bes   -- but to me?  Those 2-3 times a week of ‘round ball chasing with Homan hook-shots aided by Sykora’s protruding elbows (only St. Ignatius alum understand this) may be ending.   J   2x click After 10-12 years of left toes, hip pains and some limping a Doc said, “Why don’t we do a hip x-ray?”  Result: left hip deterioration.  What is this post-Eve’s-apple-in-Eden stuff allowing parts to wear down?  I wanna complain to that Eve babe. Yoga, stretching, muscle building, deep tissue massage, swimming, glucosimine/condritiin are among my hip rebuild a hip therapies.  Got any others? Hopefully, if the Big Doc in the sky is listening, this will only be a hiatus from gym ratting.

My best gift to myself in 2003 was working the Jimmy Carter Habitat Building project in La Grange, Georgia, where we built 22 homes from scratch in a week.  If only invading countries with that Habitat hammer armed battalion of 600 guys and girls and the 100 person Georgian supply chain had been in the 1992 draft Defense Policy Guidance (DPG), written by Deputy Defense Secretary, Paul Wolfowitz, and Cheney's Staff Chief, Lewis Libby.  That DPG has given us today’s Pax America policy, interpreted by much of the world as Pox America world hatred, dumbly seasoned with too much American blood and dollars.  The world would be more peaceful, and it wouldn’t cost us yanks as much, if since at least1992 we would have lead a lot more Habitat and Peace Corps world invasions. (For development policy wonks: The Peace Corps was in Afghanistan from 1962-79 with 1,739 volunteers working mostly in education and health; in East (now Bangladesh) and West Pakistan from 1961-67 with 462 volunteers working mostly in agriculture, education, health and rural development.  How different our present drama would be if there had been a lot more years and volunteers in those places.)  For some pics and writings on the Jimmy Carter Work Project, go to my web site home page – pictures and writings are right there. http://dwaynehunn.hypermart.net

Had to relearn a ‘trusting politicians?’ lesson that  People’s Lobby giant Ed Koupal had taught many of us well.  Unfortunately, I left my hopeful, trusting guard down long enough to be reminded that well intentioned, seemingly competent politicians, must always be analyzed first as just typical politicians.  Maine is a wonderful state with interesting people. Maine made my September to November 02 field directing the kickoff of the National Initiative Campaign fun.  The political end result, which I glossed over in my 02 Christmas letter, has not been good, but only an uncomfortable reminder about trusting.

This bungling bear also tried to learn something about sensitivity this past year.  A special Belgian chocolate lover moved from being sleepless in San Francisco to less than sleepless in Seattle.  Hopefully, she has made me a bit more sensitive to more than just good chocolate, and maybe saved a cavity.

For those who have thought I became much more bewildered after Parma, Ohio white-socked teen-hood or to whom my life always seemed confused, you can gain royal insight as to why this maybe by reading David

My RubelianTreehouse

Traversi’s just published, One Man’s Dream, The Spirit of the Rubel Castle.  For more than a few of us, there was no better place to live, play and learn.  Even frequent visitor Prince Philip believes.  (Available form Amazon.com and hopefully soon from my Barnes and Noble Affiliate link on my web site – where buying there [below] helps Habitat at the same time.)

You can also buy my co-authored book prelude to my bigger book, about a giant political crusader and mentor to many of us who helped revive the grassroots initiative process for California and the nation, Ordinary People Doing The Extraordinary, The Story of Ed and Joyce Koupal and the Initiative Process by Dwayne Hunn and Doris Ober. (Available by ordering off of my web site – direct with my sister’s help: http://dwaynehunn.hypermart.net/ordinary%20people%20doing%20buy%20it.htm  And hopefully soon from my Barnes and Noble Affiliate Store link http://dwaynehunn.hypermart.net/my_barnes_noble.htm on my web site where books, audio, video, textbooks, etc. are available now.

Those of you who are my Excel telecommunications (local, long distance, wireless, internet, etc.) customers “Thank you,” for helping buck the corporate concentration trend and helping build my side business. The rest of you, if the spirit moves you please check Excel rates and communications offerings at:

Excuse the commercial.  My advertising budget only amounts to a few sentences in a Christmas letter, so lightened up and have a swell Christmas and healthy and Happy New Year that hopefully includes a few healthy adventures…  God Bless.                                  Dwayne
