“…For example, Dwayne Hunn, speaker for this convocation. It’s
difficult to say which recommends Dwayne more, his exceptional speaking
abilities or the cause dear to his heart. Talk about an antidote to war...
Dwayne is going to speak about the World Service Corps Congressional Proposals,
and WSC’s potentials to eliminate root causes of terrorism and other world
problems.”
Tom King,
Founder of the Peace Pyramid organization
“Hello Dwayne, er, I mean "Mr.
Hunn". You were my history teacher during my junior year ('72-'73) at GHS
and a memorable one too. You were a tremendous influence on me in regard to
political consciousness and looking beyond the headlines… I came
from a typical Glendora
conservative upbringing and supported Nixon just like my parents. I used to
challenge you in class but you in turn challenged me to go work for my
candidate if I so strongly believed in him. I did and I believe you gave me
extra credit for doing so. However, the disillusionment of the '72
Christmas bombing of N. Vietnam, along with
the Watergate mess turned me into a Democrat. I now tell my friends that I'm a
"Nixon Democrat."…
Milo
Watts, former student
“It’s always hard to know exactly how to
start a letter of recommendation. The task is both very easy and extremely
challenging when I think about writing one for Dwayne Hunn. It is easy because
I believe he is a true professional educator in every sense of the word. But it
is extremely challenging because I’m not sure I can communicate to you on paper
the tremendous effect he had on my life.
“My first exposure to Dwayne was
as a 15 year old student in a high school.social studies course entitled
“Emerging Nations.” It was here that I got my first exposure to the global
social issues of adequate housing, food, and medical facilities. Dwayne was
able to make the curriculum come alive for us by supplying personal anecdotes
about his Peace Corps work in India…”
Dave Mooney, Upland High School
Administrator
“I consider him among the best speakers I
have seen at public meetings and a very good presenter. Now I hire him to work on projects with which
I and my partners are involved… One of the reasons I like Dwayne and have come
to accept many of his positions revolves around his persistence. Often the mass of people and political
leaders have opposed his position, yet he has continued to make his points,
defend his stands and provided polite but firm counter points to what others
would be saying or ignoring. In my mind,
he has been one of the few people who have led public officials and rasied the
public’s consciousness by pushing and educating them and political leaders to
adopt his sensible and thoughtful means
to address our region’s traffic, housing, energy and development needs.
